Top 5 Apple Cider Vinegar Remedies

You might have heard of the amazing benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar. Here’s our list of 5 amazing tips and remedies using ACV. Enjoy!

TIP #1: After eating too many junky foods, clean up your system with a watered-down shot of apple cider vinegar.

Apple cider vinegar can help detoxify your body; the acid in the vinegar binds toxins which helps in removing them from your body.

For a natural way to cleanse and detox, ACV is so simple but can be so effective.

HOW TO: Combine a tablespoon of ACV with 4 ounces of water, and drink it down!

TIP #2: For weight loss, enjoy 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar before or after each meal.

Apple Cider Vinegar’s main component is acetic acid, which is a natural appetite suppressant. It may promote the feeling of fullness, which can lead to a decrease in excessive eating or between-meal snacking.

BUT, on top of that it also helps with digestion of the foods that you just ate.

HOW TO: Dilute ½ to 1 tablespoon of ACV in a small glass of water, and drink about 30 minutes before OR 1 hour after each meal.

TIP #3: 1-2 daily tablespoons of ACV can help balance your blood sugar and reduce risk of diabetes.

Different studies show that vinegar can improve insulin function and lower blood sugar levels after meals.

The component called acetic acid that is found in ACV, slows down the conversion of complex carbohydrates into sugar in the bloodstream.

HOW TO: See TIP #2 for details, and note that for this it’s recommended to drink BEFORE your meal and/or to include ACV in your recipes when possible. :-)

TIP #4: Need an energy booster? Make your own ACV drink.

Apple Cider Vinegar contains potassium, amino acids and enzymes that will help relieve the feeling of tiredness and fatigue.

Just one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in an 8-ounce glass of water will improve your energy levels.

Or… you can step it up a notch to make it super delicious much like Bragg’s ACV drink but without the apple juice.

RECIPE: 2 Tbsp ACV, 1 Tbsp honey, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 16 ounces water. Shake it up, and VOILA, it’s delicious, balancing, and refreshing. You can enjoy it at room temperature (in winter) or with ice cubes (in the summer)

TIP #5: A few tablespoon of ACV for  your hair care!

Aside from the many potential benefits of ACV in our inner health, a few tablespoons may save money from expensive hair care treatments.

HOW TO: For dandruff treatment and overall conditioning, you can combine equal parts of ACV and water and transfer it to a spray bottle. Spritz it generously onto your scalp and hair. Wrap with a towel and leave for up to 15 minutes. You’ll want to wash and condition your hair as usual afterwards.

You can do this once or twice a week. You may notice that your hair is not just having less (or NO!) dandruff, but that it also feels healthier and softer.

Grilled cheese with TOMATO… mmmm!

AN ODE TO CHEESE

♥ Three Words: Grilled Cheese Sandwiches. It’s ABSURD just how tasty it is to stick bread and cheese together. So simple but so divine! OH. The CRUNCH. The melty goodness. But, FYI, add tomato rounds and you might find yourself eating these babies daily. So good!
♥ Speaking of: Melty goodness. (Can I get an amen?!)
♥ Slice it up, add it to a cracker, and you have a proper snack or maybe even a full meal if it’s one of those lazy days.
♥ A burgers’ value? Multiplied with great cheese added!
♥ It fills you up and satisfies for hours, yet doesn’t bloat or stuff you. Bless you, cheese!
♥ Pizza. Mmmm.
♥ And, we could go on…

WHY WE LOVE Old Croc Cheese in particular:

✽ It’s all natural
✽ No GMOs
✽ Created with milk from grass-fed cows in Australia. Did you know that the use of steroidal hormones is prohibited in dairy farming “down under”?!
✽ Rich in omega-3 fats, vitamin E, and CLA
✽ So good!
✽ We love the flavor variety, try ‘em all!

AND A SPECIAL NOTE TO OUR VEGAN FRIENDS:

We have AMAZING vegan cheeses. And yes, some of them even melt quite nicely. You’ll find several options waiting for you on the left side of the cheese section. So, while this post is about traditional cheese and Old Croc, you may find much of this goodness applies to the vegan cheeses too. :)

5 Uses for AMAZING Coconut Oil (Miracle?!)

by Éva Raposa, written for the lovely people at Vineyard Grocer!

If you didn’t catch it the title is in reference to the <<Coconut Oil Miracle book>> with literally more than 500 5-star reviews. People all over the world are hearing about coconut oil and finding that it actually CAN seem like a miracle!!

5 Amazing Uses (& Reasons to Use!) Coconut Oil

As you may have guessed, Dr. Bronner’s is one of our favorite coconut oil brands, and we are proud to carry quite a few of their products at Vineyard Grocer!!

As you may have guessed, Dr. Bronner’s is one of our favorite coconut oil brands, and we are proud to carry quite a few of their products at Vineyard Grocer!!

  1. Soft Body & Skin. When I’m traveling, I actually pick up coconut oil once off the plane. It’s my go-to body lotion and hair softener.

  2. Vegan Alternative to Butter. Just add some pink salt and VOILA this is a surprisingly enjoyable replacement for butter.

  3. Cooking Oil. Coconut oil is made in a way that sustains heat much better than, say, olive oil. While olive oil is great on a salad, coconut oil is a much more suitable oil for cooking.

  4. Healing Salve. Anytime we have a scratch or skin irritation, coconut oil is the first option for softening. It’s anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and so very soothing!

  5. Base for FUDGE or CHOCOLATE!! Mix equal parts cacao powder and melted coconut oil, then add a pinch of salt, plus vanilla and sweetener to your liking. Once it’s well mixed, you can add it to chocolate molds, stick it in the freezer, and VOILA, you have delicious chocolate in about 20 minutes. YUMMM!!!

In the evening, I use a cleansing oil - coconut oil also works - to remove makeup.

Hemp (SEED!) Oil vs. Hemp Extract

Before we dive in too deeply to the difference between hemp extract, I want to make sure you know about << this post here all about hemp extract >>. It dispels the common myths and I hope is helpful to you!

The major difference between hemp seed oil and hemp extract is that the extract uses the entire plant rather than just oil from the seeds.

Uses for Hemp (SEED!) Oil

  • Amazing on salads, in place of olive oil (the flavor is super rich and nutty)

  • Rub it into your skin after a shower as you would lotion

  • Not used medicinally for deep healing

  • Use it for baking… it’s especially delicious with roasted and baked fall harvest vegetables like butternut squash!!

Vs… Hemp Extract Oil

  • Add a small amount to smoothies or gently cooked foods (or even just… in a spoon taking it like a medicine).

  • Not to be used as a cooking oil!

  • Used medicinally

  • Can be helpful for challenges related to joints, inflammation, pain, and even mood
